It s not common to watch South American movies right? Yes maybe you have watched something from Brazil, but Chile?
Well this may be your first:
NO (IMDB), a movie about the referendum campaign to bring down the dictatorship. But I am moving too fast now. It's a movie that won a lot of prizes, unfortunately not the Oscar as best foreign film. Reason? The winner was Amour, an absolute masterpiece.
I obviously suggest to watch it in the original language, Spanish, with subtitles if you do not understand the language (and no, speaking Italian, Portuguese or French does not make things easier). If you a Castellano lover don't get pissed off OK? Languages change like everything else.
This movie seems easy to watch, Pinochet, the at the time dictator of Chile is calling for a referendum to confirm him as President. Some people dare to fight with a strong innovative campaign. Against all odds and all dangers. We know how it ended.
The greatness in this story is to make you feel how dangerous is to fight against dictatorship, how many layers of difficulties and struggles you face. Principles to behold, dangers to be willing to take.
