My first Italian movie, as Italian myself, could have been any of the many world knows. This is little less famous, despite the critical acclaim and the great directing by Matteo Garrone (Gomorra). The main actor won in Cannes.

Dogman is the story, harsh, of a man who has a beauty saloon for dogs in a district in Rome. A district lost in the middle of nowhere, forgotten by the world, abandoned by the law, living with and of its own realities. Common realities (occasional parties, friendship, divorces...) in a setting that exacerbate the soul of everyone, from the nicest people to those who lives the day, by the day.
The other world, the one where people are not struggling, where the district is not forgotten, is alien. I these harshness the dogman fights to keep his humanity which is far to be perfect or sinless. Yet he tries.
He fails. It is a system failure? No, there is no system. It is a story of abandoned humans and one in particular.
Not for everyone as some moments are gruesome. My wife could not watch some part of it.
