Menu of The Day: Untold Night and Day, a book by Bae Suah

Untold Night and Day

Honestly? I have not understand this short novel. Nor did my wife.
It is indeed well written and translated, the reader can be easily captivated by a surreal/real story, can easily feel the characters identities even after few lines, and it describe something, unpretentiously.
What is this about? About the final day at work of a woman, her night and the morning after, who she meets, how she interacts with them and how the things progress in different settings.
There is dining in the obscurity, there is a foreign poet that in reality is a novelist coming to Seoul she is asked by someone to go and collect and be with all day a man that seems lost, that grasp 'pictures' for inspirations, there are poets, exhibitions, there is the heat.

It is a book that flows and that can be read quickly, even if you can't really cope with it because your mind tries to look for order and meaning.
Not for everyone for sure. It did not enticed us at all, but it lured into feeling the atmosphere and the terrible heat described.
